"Resident Evil 5" (Capcom, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, $59.99) moves the action to a fictional African country called Kijuju, where Chris Redfield (the American hero of the original game) has been sent to investigate a bioterror outbreak. He's teamed with an African woman named Sheva Alomar, and they quickly discover that parasites have taken over most of the population.Still, it looks tremendous, and the sun-drenched African setting still manages to be creepy. The action is smartly paced, ranging from cramped hand-to-hand combat to widescreen shootouts. And the suspense can be excruciating, as you enter each new location knowing that the infected hordes will attack at any second.

Still, there were plenty of moments where I felt uneasy after shotgunning a path through a crowd of feral Africans. Even though "RE5" makes some points about colonialism and capitalism — the real villains are pharmaceutical companies that have been experimenting on African villages — the racial imagery is more loaded than its creators probably realized.

In Traitor, issues of loyalty, faith and conscience are explored from various points of view, including some not traditionally addressed in Hollywood films. At first glance, the title would seem to refer to the character of Samir Horn, deftly played by Don Cheadle. A devout Muslim born in Sudan, Samir was raised in the United States and, as a former member of the U.S. Special Forces, finds himself caught between extremist ideologies on both sides. To which side he has truly pledged his loyalty remains a mystery throughout the first half of the film.

When we first meet Samir, he is negotiating an arms sale with a terrorist cell in Yemin. The sale is interrupted, however, by American troops, and Samir is thrown into prison, where he cozies up to a friendly sort of extremist named Omar (Said Taghmaoui). Omar's terrorist buddies soon come to his rescue and he brings along Samir, who seems to share his ideas and is just as eager to destroy the infidels as the rest of the group. When Samir masterminds a U.S. consulate bombing in Nice, France, that results in the death of eight people, he earns the trust of the other terrorists and becomes a part of a larger plan to bomb 50 buses in the U.S. on Thanksgiving day.

The anonymous donor continued a holiday tradition by handing out $10 bills to people at The Midnight Mission. The shelter estimated that $13,000 was distributed this year.

Sony Opens Its PS3 'Home' for the Holidays

After much delay, Sony Computer Entertainment is opening its Home on Thursday. The Home virtual community, originally scheduled for a 2007 launch but hit with several delays, will be available to PlayStation 3 owners worldwide free of charge.
PS3 users will be able to download and install the Home software, create three-dimensional avatars to represent themselves in the community, and communicate with others. The company said the main activity will be creating friends as avatars visit virtual bowling alleys, arcades, game- and movie-related spaces, and homes.
'A Social Gaming Service'
Sony says Home, which has been in a closed beta stage for months, will leverage the power of the PS3 and deliver "overwhelming visual graphics and rich gaming social experiences only possible on the PS3 platform."

Exactly one year ago today (December 4) the Hip-Hop world was rocked by the sudden passing of Chad Butler, known worldwide as the cavalier Pimp C of the seminal Southern rap duo UGK.

The founder of UGK was found dead in a West Hollywood hotel after accidentally overdosing on codeine syrup.

An autopsy report confirmed that it was the combination of sleep apnea and the recreational syrup drug that proved lethal.
